"...The most imortant thing I learned is this thing that is still surprising when I tell other people, which is, that as you improve health in a society, population growth goes down."

New malaria research — helping needy children

April 28th, 2008

Did you hear about the malaria research funding that should save the lives of many needy children ?

It was won for the Liverpool School of Tropical medicine and puts over £10m into the hands of principal investigator, Professor Steve Ward, who is the school’s deputy director.

The hope is that this research will uncover and develop new drugs for poor people and particularly children with malaria in developing countries. And “poor” is the word. The project has the goal of making new malaria drugs so cheaply that a full course will cost less than 10p.

Needy children are dying throughout the malaria areas of Africa just because they can’t get cheap, effective drugs. And to make matters worse, the mosquito parasite is now resistant to chloroquine and other traditional, affordable drugs. This new research may become a major new initiative that will help many needy children across the malaria regions of the world.

Essential medicines to help needy children

The Lucress Watson and Dick Watson Children's Foundation is dedicated to bringing essential medicines and supplies to the very poorest needy children in the world.

We've created a remarkable, cost-efficient program to deliver health care through local organizations to some of the most remote places on earth, so that more needy children can grow up in good health.

Our goal ...

Our goal is to help needy children by bringing a steady supply of essential medicines to children who don't have ready access to modern medical care -- needy kids who live in extremely remote rural areas.
